Early Learning and Childcare (ELC)
November 2016 Newsletter

We have now finished our bug topic. The children really enjoyed this topic and are still regularly checking our bug hotel.
We are now moving on to learn about winter. This link came from the children discussing the cold weather outside. Our topic wall is situated on the whiteboard as you enter the playroom, all information about our winter topic will be displayed here and it will also include what the children are learning.

Sponsored walk
As MAP are a charitable organisation and a non-profit making facility we regularly fundraise to renew resources. The children in ELC recently took part in a sponsored Halloween walk. The total raised so far by ELC and Daycare is £943.00. This is a fantastic amount. Well done to all of the children, staff and helpers who took part and thank you for all of your sponsors.
We will be ordering our new resources soon and we will update you on what we have purchased. 

If you have not opted out of the toothbrushing programme, your child will start toothbrushing next week. Children will not brush daily but staff will rotate toothbrushing days/times to ensure all children are included.

At the end of October we said a sad farewell to Corrie Sherry. Corrie has left MAP to start her new position in a nursery in Carlisle. We will miss Corrie and wish her good luck in her new job.
Congratulations to Taylor Kerr, she has been completing her modern apprenticeship with MAP over the last year and was successful in her application for practitioner. Sarah Henderson has also returned to working full time so will be seen more regularly in the playroom. The ELC staff team for term 2 will be; Anjay Johnstone, Christine Jackson, Sarah Henderson, Kayleigh Cartner, Taylor Kerr and Morven Murray.

We had very little response from our Survey Monkey questionnaire that was sent out through T2P text message, receiving only 7 responses. In order to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best service in our group, please take the time to complete this questionnaire if you have not already. The management committee and staff will use the feedback to inform future practice. It is anonymous so please be as honest and constructive as possible as your responses will help us to improve and develop our quality of service.
We will provide feedback from the questionnaire in our next newsletter.

Skills bank
ELC are going to be building up a ‘skills bank’. Please complete the attached flyer on your newsletter with any skills you have that you can share with us, e.g. sewing, baking, crafts. Staff will be able to use this information to invite parent/carers/grandparents in to the session to help with an activity. Previously we have had a parent who used willow to make stars and supported the children to decorate their own; we have also had a parent who provided children with a taster session of Chinese food and one parent who gave the children a short talk on Science in line with their topic. Please return the flyer attached by Friday 18th November.

Children and Parents Enjoy Reading (C.A.P.E.R)
We have now started our C.A.P.E.R programme. Your child should receive a book within the next week. If you have any questions or your child does not receive a C.A.P.E.R folder then please speak to a member of staff.

Dates for your diary

This year children are invited to wear spots to raise money for Children in Need. Any donations can be handed in on the day; there will be donation pots in each playroom.

Children in Need bake sale
We will be having a Pudsey themed bake sale in the morning from 8am to 10am. Any donations of baking would be greatly appreciated. The children in all provisions will also be involved in making some yummy cakes and treats for this event. Any remaining cakes etc. will be available to buy from the front foyer after this time.
