ELC February 2017 Newsletter

January 31, 2017

We would like to welcome all the new children starting with us this term. We hope you all had a lovely time over Christmas and New Year.

We are going to be starting our Bird Topic week commencing 30th January. Keep checking our noticeboards and room displays to find out what the children are learning. We are also going to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch on Monday 30th of January and will be submitting our results online.

The children enjoyed celebrating Burns Day, we done some Scottish themed art and craft activities and we also had haggis, neeps and tatties for snack. A big thanks to Owen who attends Lockerbie Academy, he visited MAP to play the pipes for the children.
We also celebrated Chinese New Year and practiced some Chinese writing and also tasted some Chinese food for snack.

Loose Parts
We have been gathering some resources to start our new outdoor project. The resources have not yet been introduced to the children, all resources have still to be cleaned and risk assessed. Children will be included in risk assessing the resources to ensure they use them safely.

We have received some great donations from some local business’ including Hoddam Contracting in Ecclefechan, JP Pipes in Longtown and Harkness Painting and Decorating in Lockerbie.

A.W. Jenkinson in Lockerbie were also kind enough to donate wood chippings to cover some of the outdoor area and Christopher’s garden.

We are still looking for a few items including –
 Portable seats (camping/fishing seats & garden mats)
 Quick drying materials e.g. organza, fleece blankets and shower curtains.

We would like to remind parents that we access outside daily in all weathers. Please ensure your child brings adequate footwear including indoor and outdoor shoes and hats/gloves during the cold weather.

We have started toothbrushing in ELC. Children are able to choose whether or not they would like to brush their teeth. Staff are rotating the days weekly to ensure all children will have the opportunity to brush. If you have any questions about this please feel free to speak to a member of staff.
