Early Learning and Childcare (ELC)
Newsletter, August 2015

We would like to welcome all the new children starting with us this term and welcome back to the children in year 2, we hope you all had a relaxing and fun time.

The staff team will be Amy Henderson, Fiona Mason, Anjay Johnstone, Kayleigh Cartner and Taylor Kerr. Staff profiles are displayed in the front foyer. The keyworker list will be displayed on the noticeboard for your perusal.

Throughout the year we have a range of topics, which are all taken from the children’s interests and linked to our planning. You will see information about our Topic and what we are learning on our noticeboard and around the room.
Please feel free to look at and read our noticeboards in the playroom for children’s comments, Golden rules, children’s evaluations etc.
During the first few weeks we will be looking at our golden rules and room routines.

Drop off and Collection Procedure
Due to the flexibility of hours for E.L.C, parents will be dropping off and collecting at different times. Staffing is worked out precisely according to allocated times, so it is imperative that you drop off and collect your child/children on time, as this affects staffing. If an extension in times is required please speak to the office prior to this requirement.
We would also be grateful if you could inform staff whilst dropping your children off or telephoning in advance to say if it will be someone different to collect them.

MAP participates in the Rag Bag textile recycling scheme which provides regular fundraising for the nursery and raises awareness about recycling. Please bring any of the below unwanted items in a securely tied plastic bag to our outdoor textile bank on site. Rag Bag can accept good quality clean Men’s, Ladies and Children’s clothing, belts, bags and paired shoes (tied together). The bags will be collected when the bank is full and transported to the Rag Bag factory where they will be sorted and graded for reuse or recycling.
We also have recycling bins for paper, general waste and food. These bins are for MAP use only and we pay for these as part of our waste collection.

General Information
Water bottles
We have introduced children’s own water bottles this term. Each child will have their own water bottle with their name attached. Children will be able to access their bottle throughout the day and staff will ensure fresh water is added regularly.

Please remember to name all your child’s belongings and ensure the children bring their coats and outdoor shoes in to the playroom.
We would like to ask parents to encourage the children to leave any toys in their bags before coming in to the playroom. Toys may end up being lost or broken and children can become upset when sharing a toy from home.

Ask me about
Your child may have had a white label on their top with a question on e.g. ‘Ask me about ……?’ Staff use these as a prompt and to encourage children to share information with their parent/carers.

New Website
Here’s a sneak preview of our new website. We are currently amending and adding information to the site. We would like to know what information parent/carers would like to see on the site. Also what you might like to use the site for, e.g. holiday requests etc.
We have a space on our noticeboard in the front foyer for parent/carers to add their ideas and suggestions to.
All ideas are welcomed.

MAP is run by a voluntary board of Directors (parents of service users). We are currently looking for more directors to join the board. Parent/carers will have the chance to find out more about the running of the facility, help with decision making and overseeing the running of MAP. Being a registered charity we cannot legally run without a Committee and a full Committee with a “skill mix” would benefit our organisation. If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors, please speak to Cilla or Shona.
Please see the leaflet attached for more information.

Dates for your diary
Open Evenings
We hold regular open evenings so that you can come along and experience some of the activities we provide for your child and what they learn from particular types of activity. You will also be able to have a chat with the staff and discuss your queries, suggestions or concerns and have a closer look at your child’s personal learning plan (P.L.P).
Our first open evening will be Wednesday 26th August from 4pm – 7pm.

We look forward to working with you all over the next year.
