Daycare Newsletter,
August 2015

We would like to welcome all the new children starting with us this term. We look forward to working with you all over the next year.

Staffing
The staff team in Daycare will be Ali Wyllie, Jackie Moffat, Christine Jackson, Toni Farrell, Anca Bell, Kath Wood and Rachel Cochrane. Amber Wildwood will also be supporting the playroom as a modern apprentice. Staff profiles including their training are displayed in the front foyer. The keyworker list will be displayed on the noticeboard for your perusal.

Topic
Throughout the year we have a range of topics, which are all taken from the children’s interests and linked to our planning. You will see information about our Topic and what we are learning on our noticeboard and around the room.
We are currently learning about Our Family. Activities include group discussions about family members, show and tell where children will use photographs as prompts to encourage language development and learning new songs.

Recent Activities
Children have been developing their fine motor skills outdoors when using scissors to cut the grass and flowers in Christopher’s Garden. They have also had great fun finding treasure in the sand. Daycare children are also working on lining up in preparation for lunchtimes and when leaving the room. The babies have been experiencing textures when making their own bread dough during baking activities and have been developing their social skills during recent outings to rhyme time.

General Information
We have been introducing the daycare children to their own water bottles throughout the summer. Each child will have their own water bottle with their photograph attached to help them identify it independently. Children will be able to access their bottle throughout the day and staff will ensure fresh water is added regularly.

Belongings
As always please ensure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled

Drop off and Collection Procedure
Staffing is worked out precisely according to allocated times, so it is imperative that you drop off and collect your child/children on time, as this affects staffing. If an extension in times is required please speak to the office prior to this requirement.
We would also be grateful if you could inform staff whilst dropping your children off or telephoning in advance to say if it will be someone different to collect them.

Recycling
MAP participates in the Rag Bag textile recycling scheme which provides regular fundraising for the nursery and raises awareness about recycling. Please bring any of the below unwanted items in a securely tied plastic bag to our outdoor textile bank on site. Rag Bag can accept good quality clean Men’s, Ladies and Children’s clothing, belts, bags and paired shoes (tied together). The bags will be collected when the bank is full and transported to the Rag Bag factory where they will be sorted and graded for reuse or recycling.
We also have recycling bins for paper, general waste and food. These bins are for MAP use only and we pay for these as part of our waste collection.

Directors
MAP is run by a voluntary board of Directors (parents of service users). We are currently looking for more directors to join the board. Parent/carers will have the chance to find out more about the running of the facility, help with decision making and overseeing the running of MAP. Being a registered charity we cannot legally run without a Committee and a full Committee with a “skill mix” would benefit our organisation. If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors, please speak to Cilla or Shona.

New Website
Here’s a sneak preview of our new website. We are currently amending and adding information to the site. We would like to know what information parent/carers would like to see on the site. Also what you might like to use the site for, e.g. holiday requests etc.
We have a space on our noticeboard in the front foyer for parent/carers to add their ideas and suggestions to.
All ideas are welcomed.

Dates for your diary

Themed Sponsored Walk
Monday 7th September and Thursday 10th September at 10.30am
Daycare children will be participating in a sponsored walk to raise funds for outdoor wheeled toys.
If your child does not attend on a Monday or a Thursday morning, please speak to a member of staff. Please see sponsor form attached.
