Recent Activities
The children have been learning about animals and experiencing a variety of activities related to this including making a vet box up, visits from zoolab, naming and identifying animals, learning their sounds and animal print pictures. Children are also invited to bring in any photographs of their pets.
We are continuing to celebrate the children’s birthdays and involve them in making a cake for their special day and taking part in a birthday party style snack.

Packed Lunches
We have introduced our new procedure for decanting contents of the child’s lunchbox. We have had some feedback from parents including time to complete this task in the morning. To reduce the time spent in the mornings we are advising parents that they can pre pack the contents of the lunch box at home as long it is transported to MAP in the child’s lunch box. This procedure has been introduced due to infection control concerns as lunch boxes may be sat on the floor, in the car etc. and are then placed on our lunch tables.

Lunch Menu
Our lunch menu has now been changed. A copy of the updated lunch menu is available to collect from the front office. You can also view our snack and lunch menus on our website – http://www.mapchildcare.co.uk/parent-stuff/food-menus/

Grobags
At MAP we promote the use of grobags for babies and children when sleeping.
Why should I use a Baby Sleep Bag instead of blankets and sheets?
• They stop babies kicking off their covers, getting cold and waking themselves up
• They can’t be kicked over your baby’s head or get tangled up
• They keep babies at a comfortable temperature all night long
• Your baby can wake up, move around their cot, and fall back to sleep all on their own without you having to tuck them back in.
We have purchased various sized grobags for children to use while they sleep at MAP. Please speak to a member of staff for the full guidance leaflet and if you would like your child to use one while sleeping at MAP. Information can also be found at http://gro.co.uk/ .

Gala Themed Week
We are going to be having a gala themed week in MAP. Staff ideas so far have been a cornets ball, parade and ride out. If you have any suggestions of activities we could do throughout this week please let a member of staff know.

Room evaluations
Parents arriving early
Staff have noticed that several parents have been arriving early for daycare and waiting in the room until their allocated time. In order to safeguard the children in our care and ensure the room is not busy and crowded with lots of adults, we would ask that parents please wait in the hallway until 5 minutes before their reserved time. We would also like to remind parents that they are responsible for the care of their child until their allocated time.

Use of mobile phones
Due to evaluations carried out by management and staff we would request that parent/carers do not use their mobile phones whilst in the playrooms and they remain in your pocket or bag. This policy is currently in place for staff members and visitors and we would also like parents to follow this policy as well.

Social Media
All staff who work at MAP are registered with the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC). Each employee must abide by codes of practice set out by the SSSC. This includes becoming friends with parents on social media. Allowing a person who uses the service or their parent/carer to be our online friend or follower is not acceptable for a registered social service worker as it creates a personal relationship outside of our workplace. Lockerbie is a small community and we understand close friends and relatives use our setting and this is the only exception to online friends as relationships have been formed prior to MAP. Please do not be offended if staff do not accept friend requests.

Staffing
At the end of March we said farewell to Jaimeleigh and Anca, they have now finished their employment with MAP due to transport difficulties. We wish them both good luck in the future.
We would like to welcome Corrie Sherry back to the MAP staff team. Corrie has been travelling in America and working as an Au Pair since she left MAP in December 2014. Corrie will be covering staff holidays until June before she takes over maternity cover.

Thank you for your continued support
